NewsLetter

Have you ever thought about how much value Shawnee Community Services brings to our community? Thousands of people have received direct aid in the form of clothing, food and dollars to pay their utility bills or help with their personal perils, at no cost to our state or federal governments. We help those in need immediately without the tangled red tape of government agencies. SCS has very low overhead and community support always has been and remains vibrant. Please help us to continue this grass roots community effort. We exist because of YOUR generosity to help those in need. Your gift to the SCS capital campaign will go directly to expanding our ability to maximize the positive impact of this community’s generosity to those who need it most.

PANTRY NEWS!!!
The Pantry Box Program has been expanded to better help families in need. January through September 2009 SCS distributed 2,330 pantry boxes feeding approximately 7,800 people. A typical pantry box consists of dry goods, frozen goods, and produce. Among the items included in these boxes are cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti, cans of soup, canned tuna, canned corn and beans, frozen hot dogs, hamburger, chicken, potatoes, and bread. These items are obtained through food drive donations and by purchasing from local sources.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Please consider contributing to our Capital Campaign to greatly improve our ability to help those in need.
  * The new SCS building will expand the kitchen and food preparation area where food boxes are created, perishable and dry goods are stored, and bulk items are repackaged.
  * The expansion will provide additional floor space for the thrift shop, which provides low cost items to those in need while providing a sustainable revenue source for SCS operations.
  * The larger facility will eliminate the need for offsite storage and increase accessibility for people with physical handicaps.
  * A new SCS building will eliminate the waste of donated perishable food that cannot be accepted because of an inability to process, store, and distribute before spoiling.
  * A new SCS building will also allow us to accept more community donations of clothing, household, and garage sale items.

We have invited a number of prominent individuals to help us with our capital campaign fundraising efforts and they have graciously accepted being a member of our Honorary Campaign Fundraising Committee.

Here is how we’ve done so far:
